Assumptions and backups – IT Support Episode 81

You’re happily using Office 365 and assuming that because you are using Microsoft’s hosted email servers, Hosted Exchange, and their cloud storage, your data is backed up. This is not the case says Captain Christian.

Captain Christian red alert!

“Assumptions and backups” – IT Support Episode 81

What is the most common assumption I hear, when it comes to office 365?

You assume, Microsoft is backing your data up because you’re using their hosted email servers. Microsoft Exchange. Or you’re using their cloud storage whether it be Onedrive or Sharepoint. But let me tell you, Microsoft do not backup your data.

That is your responsibility. You have to use a third-party service, or you can do what some people do, drag and drop their files onto an external hard drive, or a memory stick as a back up. It’s not automated, it probably won’t be there when you want it because I absolutely guarantee you, you will forget to do it.

If you got a ransomware attack and your data was all encrypted for a very small amount of money you can have that data backed up automatically and it will be there when you need it.

Sir, yes Sir.

We’ve got a backup solution which takes this worry away. It only costs a couple of pounds a month. We can back up email, Onedrive, Sharepoint, and anything that’s contained in Teams as well.

So, if you’ve got any concerns about this, talk to your IT support people or click on the link below, and we can certainly help you out.

So until next time. No more assumptions!
