“Backups are boring (Part 4)” – IT Support Episode 104
They’re not boring when you need them.
A client of ours needed to restore some data that had disappeared some time ago. First of all we tested the backup and yes it was working.
However, this data seemed to have disappeared at least a year ago so we had to go digging a little deeper. Thankfully, we had a copy of the old data on site when we’d done the server installation and our wizzy chief engineer had it all documented and proof that we’d moved that data from one to the other.
What I want to focus on is the solution that would have ensured this problem wouldn’t have happened. Although we’ve managed to get back the most important data that the managing director was after, there’s still more data on that system they’d like back given the choice. So we’ve brought back their old storage system to try and do it.
However, there is a solution that could solve this from happening.
It’s called the cloud.
When it comes to a cloud backup solution it would ensure that you don’t have to worry about data disappearing from many moons ago. You can get cloud backup solutions where you can keep that data indefinitely.
Wow!
So in the case of this client, where it turned out the data had disappeared sometime between about one year and a day ago and about four or five years ago. When we installed the system we would have been able to restore it quickly and easily.
So, I’ve got a question for you, do you want to be a reckless Ken with your data or a sensible Barbie?
Use a cloud backup.
Until next time.
Hello.
