Hi, I’m Christian from Northstar IT and this week I want to talk about Microsoft’s 365 backup service.
A lot of us are using the various services Microsoft offer but this week I want to focus on their backup service.
And where do I want to go with this? You’re right, there isn’t one.
Microsoft do not offer a backup service for your data.
In SharePoint, if you’re using that there is a retention policy.
In simple terms, if you deleted a file for three months there’s an easy way for us to be able to get your data back.
However, outside the three-month retention policy, the data is gone.
If it takes you more than three months to notice something’s missing, you’re out of luck.
And then there’s other systems like Teams and Outlook.
How would you cope if your email mailbox disappeared or your contacts, your calendar appointment?
Well, this is where a backup service will give you the peace of mind of making sure your business can continue in the event of a disaster.
It’s cheap, automated and can give you peace of mind knowing that your business can continue.
So, do remember,don’t confuse a retention policy with a backup.
